Как избежать залипания пасты во время шугаринга

Sticking of sugar paste during sugaring is one of the most common fears among both novice specialists and clients. This situation can spoil the overall impression of the procedure for the client, cause discomfort and even lead to bruises or irritation.

But the good news is that sticking is easy to avoid if you know the reasons for its occurrence and follow simple recommendations from experienced specialists.

What is sticking of sugar paste and why does it happen?

Sticking occurs when the sugar paste firmly adheres to the skin and does not come off when you try to remove it. As a result, it is difficult for the technician to continue working, and the client experiences pain.

There may be different reasons for sticking, but the most common ones are:

  • The paste is too soft or too hot.
  • Increased skin moisture (e.g. sweating).
  • Errors in application or removal technique.
  • The paste is applied several times to the same place.
  • The paste layer is too thick.
  • Incorrect angle of separation or lack of skin tension.

By controlling all these factors, you can prevent the sugar paste from sticking during the procedure in time.

Expert advice: how to prevent sticking

1. Choosing the right paste for the type of area and temperature

Consider the room temperature, the temperature of the master’s hands and the depilation area. For warm and moist skin, as well as for working in a hot climate, it is better to use a thick or medium paste. Soft paste is suitable for cold rooms and less “warm” hands.

🔍 Life hack: if the paste starts to “flow” or stick, try replacing it with a thicker one right during the procedure.

2. Degreasing and powdering the skin

Before starting the procedure, the skin must be cleaned with an antiseptic or a special lotion (TERRA pre-depilation lotion, Enova pre-depilation lotion are perfect for these purposes), dry the skin thoroughly, then apply talc for sugaring or special powder.

This will reduce skin moisture and create an additional barrier between the skin and the paste. This is especially relevant advice for clients with hyperhidrosis or simply excessive sweating.

3. Control of thickness and direction of application

The paste should be applied in a thin layer against the hair growth and removed in the direction of hair growth. A thick layer is harder to control and sticks more often.

It is also important not to apply the paste to the same area too many times, especially if the skin is already irritated.

4. Work at a fast pace

Working too slowly with a soft paste can lead to sticking. After applying, do not wait, but make a tearing movement immediately, clearly and parallel to the skin, without “twitching”.

5. Watch the tension of the skin

This is one of the most underestimated factors! Where the skin is not stretched, the paste sticks more often. For better skin tension, use:

  • free hand
  • correct position of the client,
  • pillows or bolsters for fixing the limbs.

Tension is your “insurance” against injuries and sticking.

6. Do not neglect replacing the paste

If sugar paste gets filled with hairs, becomes too viscous or changes consistency during work, replace it with fresh one. Working with clogged paste always increases the risk of sticking and unsatisfactory results.

7. Use bandaging technique if necessary

If the situation is out of control, and sticking still occurs, you can use a bandaging strip (fabric or paper). It will help remove the stuck mass without unnecessary trauma to the skin.

What to do if the paste has already stuck?

  1. Don’t panic. It happens even to experienced artists.
  2. Don’t try to tear off the paste by force. It can damage the skin.
  3. Apply some fresh paste over the sticking — and peel it all off.
  4. Or use a bandage strip.
  5. After the procedure, treat the skin with an antiseptic and soothing lotion.

Sticking of sugar paste during sugaring is not a death sentence, it can happen to anyone. It is just a signal that something went wrong: the paste, the technique or the conditions. Knowing these nuances and the algorithm of actions when sugar paste sticks will help to avoid most unpleasant situations and make the procedure comfortable for both the master and the client.
