No matter how much you want to hear the opposite, in fact, body hair removal is a painful procedure. And only a combination of factors determines whether it will be a subtle discomfort or severe pain.
Especially when it comes to bikini depilation. This is a very sensitive area on the female body, hair removal from which is almost always accompanied by pain. Of course, a lot depends on the master, his technique and hand position, and the choice of the right materials for work.
Advice to sugaring masters. What affects the pain during sugaring?
Pain during depilation depends on many factors: the client’s individual pain threshold, hormonal background and, of course, the master himself. Therefore, if your clients one after another complain about painful sugaring, first of all ask yourself if you are all doing it correctly.
The client may feel pain when applying the sugar paste and may feel pain when removing it. In order to reduce pain during application, it is necessary to use a material that is easy to apply – heated sugar paste, application technique, syrup technique.
Analyze all the factors that can cause pain during sugaring:
- correct choice of sugaring paste,
- correct application of the paste,
- skin tension,
- sharp separation,
- “anti-stress” technique (performed with the back of the hand or thumb).
For more information on how to follow all these rules, you can watch the training videos on the channel of the TOP sugaring master Yana Osadchaya.
Psychological methods for reducing pain during sugaring
Be sure to talk to the client before starting the procedure, especially before sugaring the bikini or armpits, as these areas are the most sensitive.
It is important to psychologically to relax the client, distract him from the expectation of pain, and talk about abstract topics. You can comment on each of your steps so that the client understands exactly how the procedure will go.
You can also suggest that the client switch their attention, for example, to an anti-stress toy that can be held in their hands and squeezed during discomfort.
How to reduce pain during sugaring?
There are also other ways to reduce pain during depilation.
For clients who have a low pain threshold or strong fear of the procedure, it is better recommend taking a painkiller 20-30 minutes before the procedure. This can be ibuprofen, diclofenac, or the painkiller that the client usually takes for headaches, toothaches, or menstrual pain.
We do not recommend taking aspirin for these purposes, because it thins the blood, which is undesirable during the sugaring procedure.
In a woman’s body, many processes are regulated by hormones, so it is important to monitor your menstrual cycle even when choosing the day of your appointment for a beauty procedure. Yes, sugaring in the first half of the menstrual cycle (5-10 days) will be tolerated most comfortably.
In the middle of the cycle, when ovulation is approaching, the body reacts more painfully to attempts to remove unwanted vegetation. The second half of the cycle is characterized by increased pain and irritability, so it is also better to refuse this procedure. But all this is very individual and if you have a normal or high pain threshold, then you probably will not feel additional discomfort.
Also, a depilatory master can reduce the pain of the depilation procedure bywith medications. For example, these are painkillers with lidocaine.
If the client is not allergic to this drug, you can use a cream with lidocaine. Such a cream should be applied in a thin layer to the shugaring area and tightly wrapped with cling film without air access. The cream is applied for 20-30 minutes.
We use for our clients IBC Cream, which has demonstrated a good effect of local anesthesia.
Also, among other methods of reducing pain during depilation, one can mention the use of talcum powder with menthol, which also anesthetizes and cools well, and lotion before depilation with camphor.
Choosing the right care cosmetics for sugaring can also relieve pain and reduce pain due to the use of special ingredients – menthol, camphor, etc.
And don’t forget to create an appropriate environment around the client: use colored sugar paste, make the client a sauce mask for the bikini area after sugaring, offer a bio-tattoo to leave a pleasant impression after the procedure.
